Srsly?

Santorum? You mean the guy who wants a Constitutional amendment to un-marry currently married gay people? I guess this is a measure of how much rank-and-file Republicans really don’t want Mitt Romney. Still, I think we may be approaching Peak Crazy. At least, I hope so.

  1. Be careful. John Cole, over at the intemperate Balloon Juice, once predicted Peak Wingnut, but discovered that it does not exist. Turns out, shouting is just what they do, with or without reason. (cf, granite table tops, an essay by Keynes when he was 17 that is anti-Semitic).

I hate to say that Overton’s Window has shifted so far that I agree with someone like David Frum, but the come-back-to-reality moment won’t happen unless and until a broad swath of the US no longer identifies with the crazy. Good luck.

    1. “When fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a Bible.” Sinclair Lewis knew what he was talking about…

  2. BREAKING NEWS-A VAST ALIEN ARMADA FROM THE VICINITY OF THE CONSTELLATION PERSEUS HAS JUST VAPORIZED EVERY MAJOR CITY IN EUROPE AND IS NOW CROSSING THE ATLANTIC AT SUPERSONIC SPEED.

For commentary on how this may affect the standing of the candidates in the Iowa caucuses, we go now to Mike Gasbag at our Des Moines affiliate.

  3. Every time I hear someone say “the Santorum bubble” I get this image that can’t be described in polite company. I guess I just have a sick imagination.
