1. True that, but the longer Bill Clinton was oh-so-satisfying.

2. Not so eloquent?
   Watch it again.

   Watch his hands.
   Watch the way he uses his face…
   Watch the way the mouth opens, pauses, let’s the crowd sing out, closes, and then recasts itself…
   Is his mind reformulating the structure of the speech on the fly?
   Watch words, face, hands, body, all working as one.

   That is how you tell a story involving numbers and policies and politics and values.
   That is how you make that dry crap breathe live: “Listen to me carefully….”
   That was one of the greatest speeches of our time.
   It was beyond masterful and will be analyzed along the lines I’ve suggested for a long time.

Voters need to know that, by cutting MediCAID drastically, Romney/Ryan will devastate not just poor and disabled Americans, but also will devastate many American families who wind up with a beloved senior who proceeds from needing just MediCARE to also needing MediCAID for elder and nursing care. How many seniors wind up needing to go through this MediCARE to MediCAID transfer? Lots, I’m sure, but I don’t have a number. These MediCARE-to-MediCAID seniors, and their families, need to be hammered with knowledge of this nasty, hidden Romney/Ryan time-bomb waiting for them.

   And any American state whose voters care about the poor, and the disabled, and elders had better start worrying about the Ryan/Romney MediCAID block grant trick. This trick is a blatant beggar-thy-neighbor race to the bottom which will drive jobs away from caring states and into Scrooge States which use the Ryan/Romney block grant program to cut MediCAID costs to the bone.

   Hey, Ohio? Feel like losing jobs to Mississippi?

   1. You can get a decent handle on the number of seniors who “go through the … transfer” by looking at the number of so-called dual eligibles. These are persons who are eligible for both programs. The dual eligibles are a superset of the seniors in question, because some disabled adults are also dual eligibles, but the number is a pretty good upper bound. Duals aged 65+ numbered 5.6M in 2008.

   2. This only demonstrates the beauty and economy of the Republican policy proposals. Republican policies on global warming will leave plenty of ice floes upon which to implement proposed Republican Medicaid policy.

      1. Dual Romney/Ryan time-bombs.

         1) Huge, Whopping time-bomb cuts to MedicAID by Romney/Ryan will shock and awe millions of seniors and their families, when the beloved senior transitions from needing just mediCARE to needing both MediCARE AND MedicAID for nursing and elder care. This Ryan/Romney bomb will devastate the finances of millions of seniors and their families.

         Do YOU have a beloved senior? Do YOU plan to become a beloved senior someday, yourself?

         2) The Ryan/Romney MedicAID block grant time-bomb will blow up on Caring States, like Ohio, driving Ohio jobs to Ayn Rand Scrooge States which will not hesitate to cut MedicAID right down to the the bone.

5. I think you missed doing him justice by a ways prof, the man could easily be the greatest persuasive orator in human history.

      I’ve been saying all along that I’m not voting for either party, and I still don’t intend to, but I’ve got to admit that last night’s speech nearly convinced me to change my mind.

      1. That said, the irony of the only President to be impeached for lying to congress calling out the other party for their lies, wasn’t lost on me.

   Newsflash: Politicians of both parties exaggerate and prevaricate.

   1. @Jonathan H Adler: Are you saying there’s no difference between Republican exaggeration and Democratic exaggeration? Between Republican prevarication and Democratic prevarication? If so, I certainly did not get that impression from reading Ezra Klein’s fact-checking of Bill Clinton.

      1. Anonymous,you’re absolutely right. Wonkbook’s fact check of Clinton overwhelmingly says that Clinton was telling the truth, although there were some prevarications — as opposed to Ryan who simply made things up in the most central parts of his speech. Repulbicans are desperately searching for false equivalence, and may convince the more credulous in the press to repeat it, but it’s just not true.

         Bloomberg reports that Clinton’s speech had “no false claims,” which is little too rosy, but a lot closer than Republican agitprop:
