Close on nine years ago I wrote a book called Circles of Recovery that reviewed the scientific research on addiction-related self-help organizations. My publisher was in the UK (Cambridge University Press) but I am a US citizen and was living in the US at the time. When the book came out, I therefore filed the necessary paperwork to avoid double taxation of my meager royalties.

Keith Humphreys is the Esther Ting Memorial Professor of Psychiatry at Stanford University and an Honorary Professor of Psychiatry at Kings College London.
