Quote of the day

In this state of imbecility, I had, for amusement, turned my attention to political economy.

  1. This quotation would be appropriate today, and could be equally attributed at both ends of the left-right continuum:

Among political commentators, it could have been said by George Will and Kevin Drum.
Among economists, it could have been said by Greg Mankiw and Paul Krugman.

Of those four (and most others) Kevin Drum stands out as one of the few who understand (and write) that "even though the economics interests me, I recognize that politics trumps economics every time." And for further elaboration on that, just scroll up to Keith Humphrey's post on Economic Growth.
