No evacuation plan for Rikers?

Michael Bloomberg proves, once again, that being a cultural liberal is entirely consistent with being a miserable, heartless bastard.

Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot.

12,000 people - some of them rather dangerous - on a low-lying island. Everywhere else in NYC in the same flood-risk category is under mandatory evacuation.

And yet the Mayor doesn’t even have a contingency plan for what to do if Rikers floods?

Just proves that being a cultural liberal is entirely consistent with being a miserable, heartless bastard.

  1. What is your source for the flood risk category of Rikers Island? Most of the areas being evacuated are further east.

  2. Just proves that being a cultural liberal is entirely consistent with being a miserable, heartless bastard.

What part of Akon’s song don’t you understand? No Labels.
    LOL

“Joining Bloomberg, who tried out the Democrat and Republican parties before becoming an independent, were a slat of politicos and entertainers. AKON, a Grammy-nominated pop star, sings the No Labels anthem.”

  3. John Beaty says:

“What’s your source for calling Mike Bloomberg a liberal?”

    I second this, Mark.

  4. Mark didn’t call the guy a liberal. He called the guy a “cultural liberal.” Means he tolerates interracial marriage but not necessarily the income tax.

  5. Parts of the island are quite high, and you could evacuate prisoners from one jail on the island to another (there are a number of semi-separate jails contained within an outer layer of security) if worst came to worst. The idea that all of Rikers would be flooded in anything short of the Day After Tomorrow just doesn’t seem right, so I get the impression that a lot of this criticism is coming from people who just don’t like Bloomberg and are looking for something to criticize in the Irene response.
