    What a beautiful bird!!! I recently saw a male bluebird for the first time and he was stunning. (Usually what we get here are jays.)

  2. As is common with songbirds, the female has much more subdued plumage. That's nature, and Mrs. Cardinal has to put up with it. Not so the human discrimination that keeps women from being cardinals of the Catholic Church. The institution is of pragmatic human origin, and no dogma requires that cardinals be priests and therefore men. I'm still waiting for Pope Francis to show a bit more courage here and appoint some pious, experienced and crafty women religious to the college. He could use their input.
