My opponent says he will get oil prices down by finding more oil at any cost. I hope you are ready for that new refinery in your backyard, you know, just down the street from the nuclear power plant and the oil rig.
But I am telling you all right now. I am telling you, the price of oil is coming down as we speak. It is coming down fast too. From nearly $150/bbl a few weeks ago to less than $120 today. And there is a reason it is dropping, and just between me and all of you, it isn't because of drilling.
It is you. Yeah, all of you!
You America, you brought the price of oil down. And you did it with a simple decision. You decided to use less. Some of you chose to buy a smaller car. Some of you have started using mass transit, which is vital. But all of you are simply using less gasoline. In May of 2008 Americans drove 10 Billion fewer miles than in the same period a year ago. 10 Billion with a B! And I am willing to bet that you will do even better in June, July and August.
Don't let John McCain, George Bush and their friends and supporters at Exxon and Hess fool ya! You don't need any help from anyone drilling in your backyard to get the price of gas down. All you have to do, America, is keep on doing what you are doing right now!
Combine your trips, use mass transit, drive a smaller car, ride a bike, take a walk, and yes, you might even consider inflating those tires properly. Why? Because when we all work at it, then it works for all of us.
See, they don't want you to understand. They don't want you to understand the truth. They want you to live in fear and ignorance. They like the idea that you feel powerless. They like it when you sit down, shut up, and stop asking questions. That is why they make fun of simple ideas that are proven to work. It is indisputable that properly inflated tires save gasoline. And they save lots of it, too!
I guess if you have a record quarter of profits at your oil company or married an heiress you don't really have to worry about this stuff. But the rest of us do.
Exxon, Shell, Chevron, Hess Oil, John McCain and George W. Bush got you where you are today. Now, if you are happy with were you are, then you should vote for them again and we will continue down the road we were on.
But I don't you want that. Do you?
No I don't think you want that at all. And I know you want to change because YOU have already made that change in driving less and bringing down the price of oil.

Not bad, eh?
What's really nice is that the actual Obama is starting to take the gloves off.
