A Curious Case of How Newspapers Report Nerdy Research

A Harvard scientist is perplexed about how his upcoming experiment has been reported in the popular media as a test of the possibility of unleashing geoengineering.  The Harvard Crimson quotes him:

“He said that he had not been contacted by The Guardian. “It’s so completely twisted,” he said. “My entire scientific career is based on defending the stratosphere. The last thing I’d ever do was compromise it.”

  1. If I were a serious newspaper journalist, I would resent the headline that uses “newspapers” for a synonym of “Guardian,” just as Diane Sawyer would resent using “TV journalism” as a synonym for “Fox news.”
