The Washington Post had an article on Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke blaming forest fires in the western United States on “environmental terrorists.” According to Department of the Interior apologist spokesperson Faith C. Vander Voort:
There have been a number of instances where environmental groups have submitted petitions to the Bureau of Land Management, halting companies from removing dead and dying timber until the BLM can sort through each petition point.
In other words, if you lawfully submit written comments to proposed regulations or petition the government, you’re a terrorist.
In the course of the article, there was a mention of:
A 2016 study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences found that the heat and drought brought about by climate change was responsible for doubling the amount of land burned in the western United States between 1984 and 2015.
It would have been helpful if the article linked to the PNAS study. It didn’t. It’s here.
