More reviews of A Measure of the Sin are coming in. Paul Webster at The London Film Review calls it a “unique, unconventional and bold film that navigates bold and uncharted territory”.
Adam at FilmPulse is equally positive:
Jeff Wedding’s A Measure of the Sin encapsulates everything needed to breathe life into a stagnant genre. The film blurs the lines between experimental art piece and uneasy horror, with a visual style that stands on its own. It’s strange, unsettling, and extremely well-made, especially considering the low budget this surely had.
But Brian Morton at Rogue Cinema panned it as “an interesting concept poorly executed”.
You’d think that last one would bother me, but it really doesn’t. A Measure of the Sin is just not intended as a mainstream film for everyone…some discerning, smart moviegoers are going to dislike it and we knew that long before we had a rough cut in hand. But we also knew some equally discerning and smart moviegoers would embrace it, and it’s nice to know from the other reviews that that is happening also.
The film has now been accepted at two more festivals, and I hope you will watch it if you can. They are the Arizona Underground Film Festival where it will show on September 19th and the New York City Independent Film Festival where it will show on October 20.
Keith, when will A Measure of the Sin be released to DVD? There are two chances that it will make to my neck of the woods, and Fat has already blown town.
Kind of you to ask Dennis. Based on my enormous experience as the executive producer of exactly zero films prior to this one, I don’t know. My understanding is that we do the festival circuit and see if a distributor is interested, and if so they issue the DVD. Failing that, we do it ourselves later, at which point I will announce their availability here.
Where do you live by the way — it is under review at many festivals around the country right now and could always come to a theater near you.
