A few days ago, I suggested that the Republican Party elite are trying to put the visibly crazy members of their party in mothballs in the run-up to the 2012 Campaign. One can tell this by watching the actions of the Official Party Organ, Pravda Foxnewskaya, in much the same way that Kremlinologists of yore would watch Official Party Publications.
Well, here we go again. Glenn Beck will end his show “some time this year,” but most likely far in advance of the end of his contract in December. The Times story suggests that Beck was an arrogant jerk and a pain in the ass to deal with, which is no doubt true, but so is O’Reilly. That’s not the point: Beck still leads his time slot by far.
The point is that the Party is preparing for elections, Pravda Foxnewskaya is simply part of the organization, and is doing its part. It has even given Beck a sinecure. All smoothly done.
Someone should question Glenn Beck if this was a sign from GOD or just stuff that happens.
When I was a kid I lived in Utah, and the Boy Scouts was taken over by Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS Church). This, so called religion, practices underage polygamy, they send the boys off on missions to divide the underage sisters among the dirty old men of the clan. Now when these underage girls get pregnant, these same dirty old men, send them to the state to get their welfare checks . You should see some of the palace homes that are paid with welfare checks (not on just one of course). By the way this is the newest religion that was made right here in United States of America, I guess their also in AZ, CA, NM, TX, NV, CO, OK.
Glenn Beck’s comments on Japan as being a sign from GOD is trash talk, kicking them when they are down, would he say the same if a terrible thing happened to himself or his family? When someone hides behind religion to do or say something we know is wrong we should stand up and point it out (right the Wrong).

Montana, Glenn Beck is either a paranoid lunatic or has rationally decided to pretend to be one as a money-making and/or power-grabbing strategy. He is either a pitiable or a truly loathsome person. And he happens to be a Mormon. But while there are things about Mormon theology and society and politics that I don’t in the least admire (not that I’m terribly well informed on the subject), there’s still an enormous difference between mainstream Mormonism, such as I’m given to understand Beck practices, and the FLDS church you denounce in your comment. While from what little I know the FLDS is just as bad as you say, I’m not aware that it has anything to do with Beck.
Beck is pretty far off the reservation for the “movement”-he went from safe shill for the tax-breaks-for-billionaires movement to something genuinely, if lunatic, populist. From that position, he’s actually working against the interests of Fox. Better for the movement to have him a little less out of the limelight, so that his ideas can be out there, still moving the frame of acceptable discourse rightward, but with less attention.
Kevin- I have to disagree. He went off the reservation on Egypt, but that’s about all I can recall. He did the appropriate (for Republicans) 180 degree pivot on TARP, for example. And the GOP has no problem with birtherism, etc. Jonathan is mostly right, I believe, but the advertising boycott is costing Murdoch $$$, and that doesn’t help either.
Beck is useful in off-years. He whips up the lunatic 27%, ties in nicely with the radical Christians, and normalizes crazy. But he has to be demoted to radio on leap years, because the non-insane Republicans (all three of them) and more importantly swing voters, are turned off by that stuff.
Glenn Back was like the “Chicken Littles” always saying that the “Sky is Falling”, like the same ones that were the “Chicken Hawks”, big talk no courage. The United States, favors creativity wherever it can be found. We’re apostles of prosperity and defenders of the free exchange of ideas and when more people in more countries are free to rise, to invent, to communicate, to dissent, it’s not the doom of United States leadership, its the triumph of the American way. Generations have worked hard and sacrificed much for the country to reach this point (individuals and our unions!), and with further hard work and sacrifice (along with our relentless self-doubt) the United States will rise again, we do not tire and we are coming back, no matter what the “Chicken Littles” keep saying about our nation. Never Bet Against the United States!
