The Los Angeles Times Festival of Books put together quite a session on climate change at USC today.  You can watch our CSPAN podcast.  I had several friends in the audience and I tried to be funny and interesting.    The other participants were top notch people.  I have read the books Salt and Cod by Mark Kurlansky and it was very nice to talk to him and his daughter. He struck me to be a very reasonable guy.  I was greatly impressed that he has written 22 books.  That’s 19 more than I have written.  I should try to work harder.   The other panelist was my UCLA colleague Laurence Smith and he talked about his new book .    It takes guts to make strong predictions about what the world will look like in 2050 and Laurence makes some plausible predictions.   I talked about free market environmentalism and my Climatopolis.    If you watch the video, you will see that the LA Times Margot Roosevelt doesn’t really like my book.     But, she quickly learned that I’m funny dude and I can take a punch.  Listen to the audience, they understood what I was saying.

Mr. KURLANSKY (damn iPad won’t accept his name, damn you auto correct) is the author of two really top notch books overshadowed by the ones you name, Nonviolence and 1968, The Year that Changed Everything, a book I was prepared to dislike just because of the subtitle but turned out to br terrific.

Given his successes, I’m wondering at the tone of surprise in your post about him being a reasonable guy, what would you have expected?
