The New York Times reports that Joe Biden has not been given a specific portfolio, and right now is simply in the role of “counselor.”

It might be a good idea right now for him to go to Mumbai and New Delhi, reassure India’s leaders of America’s support and attention in the wake of the horrific terrorist attacks, and get good intelligence for the President-elect.

This is a crucial relationship, with the world’s largest democracy. Something symbolic like this is both the right thing and the smart thing to do.

UPDATE: Politico wonders what’s happened to Biden: a high-level trip to New Delhi could be an answer.
