Isn’t it the beginning of summer, not “Midsummer”?

The idea is that “summer” is centered on the longest day instead of following it, which actually makes more sense to me. Midaugust feels like fall is starting, doesn’t it? Isn’t Labor Day really the beginning of the city season/end of summer?
